What it Means to Write for Digital Media?

Each of these elements are used in the writing and rhetoric major at Oakland University with a focus in digital media. In some of the courses the writer will need to know some of these elements when writing.

Requires Technologies: 

  • Using different technologies to make it easier to revise our work

  • Easier way to communicate with others

  • To show our work off

Makes Use of Internet: 

Being able to reach our audience in a larger range even across the world

Uses Digital Images:

Using images found on google or other search engines that are now digital and not phyical copy 

Operates in More Than One Media:

  • Can be used on mulitple sites to communicate and convey a message

  • Something can be posted on twitter then show up on facebook or snapchat or instagram

Requires Research: 

  • Have to have some kind of proof to what may be talked about in your post or blog or social media site if it is academic

  • Usually there isnt any research when making random posts on personal social media accounts

Communicates in Social Environments: 

  • Being able to communicate with others in different social media platforms

  • Others can join in on the conversation

  • State their own opinions with using different hash tags

Makes Use of Rhetorical Devices:

Being able to have the facts - Logos

​

Being able to have the emotional pull - Pathos

​

Being able to credit yourself properly - Ethos

​

Being able to have the right timing - Kairos

Digital Audience: 

Having an audience through a screen instead of phyically being there in person 

In a Constant State of Revision: 

  • Being in a digital state our work is never done

  • We always can make changes for the next year

  • Keep everything current as possible
